About Olympia Otters
The Olympia Otters is a summer-only (May-June) competitive swim team. Residents outside the neighborhood are eligible for the team, but they will be subject to a higher registration fee.
The team has a learn-to-swim program for new team members ages 4-8 years, but these team members will not be allowed to compete until they can swim the full 25 meters of the pool unassisted without touching the lane lines and/or the walls. Depending on the swimmer, this could take one week or the whole summer.
The Olympia Otters Swim Team is run by parent volunteers. To join the team, all parents are asked to select their volunteer position(s) and commit to them. The Otters could not happen without all the parents helping as it takes many volunteers to run multiple Swim Meets (Home and Away), prepare social activities, order gear and throw the end-of-season party. All the money raised by the Otters ultimately goes back to our swimmers and parents by paying for coaching, equipment, t-shirts, awards, and everything else. This is why Otters ROCK!
Otter Home Meets are held at the Olympia Hills 5-Lane, 25-Meter Pool.
The Olympia Otters Swim Team is a member of the Maverick Summer Swim League and competes against the other member teams in the greater San Antonio area. The League has 4 divisions. Our division is determined by team member numbers each summer.
At the end of our season we have an MSSL Division Championship Meet (CHAMPS) which includes all the teams in our division. Swimmers may then qualify for the ALL STAR meet and compete against swimmers from all the divisions.
The summer league season is a fast paced eight week period but everyone who experiences it has a great time, makes new friends and looks forward to the next year.
